Medical Student Turned Interior Decorator?

We moved into our place over 6 months ago, but didn't get to decorating our dining room until this week.  I guess the dining room is just one of those rooms that doesn't look that bad if it is sorta empty.  Anyway, I decided to take on a little project with my free time and spruce it up a bit!  Here is what it looked like before:

My decorating buddy (stuffed crust pizza sleepover!)

I just went to Ross and bought a few cute little items for our previously empty shelf, and a mirror!
I made this flower center piece with some flowers from Joann and got these salt & pepper shakers for 80 cents a piece!

Okay, I know this is SUPER old lady of me... but I have a weird "bird fetish", so I stuck two love birds in some marbles in a heart basket. So sue me!

Also made this arrangement from Joann flowers and pebbles.

Stick some $1 potpourri and some marbles in a dish and call it a day!

I decided last minute to include this frame, so I had to scramble to find pictures I already had printed up.  Just some pics of family and Hawaii.

My sister gave me this picture/mirror.

Picture I took of Haight/Ashbury: one of my favorite places!

Someone is enjoying the new decor....

I needed some art work for the room, but didn't find anything I liked or anything cheap enough, so I just painted this for the room!  Yeah, I don't know why I am all into birds at the moment?!

We still have to keep our bikes in the dining room because we really don't have many other places to put them.  That's okay though, they kinda add to the room! :P

Well, hope you enjoyed my dining room makeover!  It feels a bit more homey now that it isn't empty.

Ready For Finals?

So today, after month of no coffee, I finally got back on the coffee train.

My sweet, sweet espresso machine and I were blissfully reunited.  Like the sticker that I accessorized it with?  I feel like it describes me well.

I homeschooled yet again today (I love doing that).  Not only did I go over the lecture I missed in 1/4 the time, but I also ran a bunch of errands, went to a great lunch time MSFC talk, and went on a wonderful jog down T street (where a lot of my "fall" pictures from a few posts ago were from).  I just love Sacramento sometimes.  The people here are so damn friendly!  I went to the post office in Oak Park today to pick up my diploma from UCLA, and every single person there smiled at me and told me to have a nice day, workers and customers.  Also, when the worker handed me the envelope, he holds his hand out for me to shake it and says "Congratulations!"... I asked him how he knew what it was, and he just said, "I've been doing this a long time".  And how fun is it to run down a street where everyone who is out working in their yard says hello to you and smiles as you run by?  I could get used to this!  I was also very entertained on my jog by very funny animal habits.  I saw dogs sitting on window sills, but the funniest thing I saw was a huge wolf-like dog laying on the roof over a porch.  I actually stopped and did a double take because it was so odd looking.  I should have taken a picture, but I didn't want to stop too long.  Maybe I will catch him up there again some other time?!

Also, had a wonderful dinner and coffee date with my big sib.  She always gives such great advice.  :)

And yes... next week is finals.  *sigh* too bad my mind is already on winter break.  At least I'm not too stressed... more apathetic and tired than anything.  Hopefully they go by fast!

My House

So here are some pics of my place.  I know its taken me a while to post these, but I had been waiting to finish decorating my room, and let's just say who knows when that will be finished?!

There is my room.  I will add other pics later.

My Veggie Garden

I have officially planted my little veggie garden in the back.  I have tomatoes, basil, oregano, rosemary, eggplant, lemongrass, hot peppers and bell peppers.  I hope they stay alive! I have been enjoying eating them!

Three More Weeks Left Of My Pre-med Life

A few things have happened since my last post, but I've been a little too busy to post about them so I will just summarize.  J and I had our first night "out on the town" in downtown Sac.  We went to the Park, which (to my understanding) is one of the few hip places to go.  I had already been there during UCD SOM revisit weekend, but this time it was a little more crowded.  All in all, a pretty fun night.  The people in Sac are much more friendly and approachable, but can be on the weird/downright ghetto side... but hey, J and I love meeting characters, so its all good.

The very next day, I woke up and could not stop vomiting, even though I felt fine the night before.  I couldn't even keep water down, and after puking 25 times in about five hours, I decided I should try to see a doctor for some anti-nausea meds or something.  Luckily, Juliette was able to drive me to the ER (because I was too sick to even drive) where they hydrated me with two liters of IV fluid and gave me the wonderful anti-nausea meds.  That definitely did the trick.  My labs all came back normal, so it must have either been food poisoning or just plain too much booze, but either way, it was NOT fun.  That was my first trip to the ER, and it was sort of entertaining since the room across from mine had a prisoner from Folsom Prison in it, but I definitely hope I never have to go back to the ER.

This past weekend, E drove O (UCLA BF) up to Sac and we spent the weekend together.  It was really fun! He helped me build some of my furniture for my room, so I am about halfway done!  It was really nice to spend time together.  I am flying down to LA to visit him in two weeks, so that should be fun too.  4th of July was super chill.  O and I stopped by a high school friend's Downtown apartment and I got to see all my old high school buddies, which was awesome because its been a long time.  I really like Midtown from what I have seen.  It's just a really laid-back atmosphere and busy, which I like.

UCD SOM Revisit Weekend

Today and yesterday was the "re-look" event for UC Davis School of Medicine.  It was AMAZING!  I already knew I wanted to go to UCD for sure, but this was really just a confirmation that I belong there.  The mission of the school, the vibe, everything... it's all just so perfect!

We spent a lot of time mingling with our future classmates and the current med students, and I really feel like I am going to fit in.  UCD is such a family, and I love that!  I know that I have the type of personality that I need to be surrounded by supportive friends to succeed in school, and I know I am going to get that there.  The classes are pretty small (about 95 ish per grade) so everyone knows eachother, which I LOVE!  It's kinda like joining a sorority again haha.

Also, S ( my future roomie) and I went house hunting, which was really fun!  All of the houses are old and super cute!  We really really liked one, but we are not sure if its the one we will go for yet.  It is everything we want, except the ONLY problem with it is its on the side of campus where the neighborhood isn't amazing.  I mean, it's only a block or so from the school, so the neighborhood is fine, but if you go further down, the neighborhood gets pretty sketchy (Oak Park).  Either way, there are a lot of cute places out there, so I'm sure something will work out!

I still have to pinch myself everyday because I don't believe this is all happening to me!  I feel like my life is finally starting, and I actually feel like I am becoming an adult for once.  It's a pretty awesome feeling.
