While my classmates were watching a video of a birth in class, I was watching one live in the L&D

Between all the mandatory classes we have had this block and me getting sick, I finally found some time to go shadow in L&D (labor & delivery).  If I had to sum up my day in one word it would be WOW.

Have you ever had the feeling that you were being pulled in a certain direction?  Today I just couldn't help but notice all of the signs drawing me into pursuing OB/Gyn.  I know it's sort of "superstitious" of me, but when I notice things, I listen to my gut!

Sign #1: What could have been a totally awkward, embarrassing situation (me thinking an attending was a resident and asking her what year she was) actually turned out to be a funny one, because the attending just laughed and took it as a compliment! I felt so comfortable in L&D, mostly because all of the attendings, residents, nurses, etc were SO NICE!  The attending I was working with for the day is a wonderful teacher who is very patient, and she shares a lot of the same philosophies I do on giving compassionate patient care and teamwork with colleagues.

Sign #2: There were a bunch of pics up in the resident lounge of kids/pets etc, and there was a picture of a cat that looked JUST like Zoey! HA!

Sign #3: I saw my very first live vaginal delivery and the baby girl weighed the exact amount I did when I was born down to the ounce! (I won't say the number to leave out identifying info just in case)

Anyway, WOW what a day! Watching the birth was incredible. I wanted to cry just seeing how happy the family was.  What would it be like to see that every day at work?  What an amazing job to have!  Also as a side note, I did not pass out today, thank you very much (lol).  I even got my first glimpse in the OR at a procedure that I had never heard of (its rare).  I had no idea what I was looking at on the ultrasound monitor, but it was cool nonetheless just getting a feel for the OR!

Overall, I had a great day, and even though I spent 8 hours there, time flew by.  I can't wait to go back soon!

Photography Slump

The last couple of months I haven't really been using my wonderful camera and haven't been taking lots of pics... I guess I am in a photography slump? I have felt like I just don't know what to take pics of.

I saw some WONDERFUL portraits today (Hom Photography) that inspired me to take pictures of what I like: people! So, I am going to pursue that more now that I know what I like!

I did take some pictures last week downtown but I am still working on them...

Btw does anyone use tumblr? It seems like such a cool blog site... I kinda want one but I feel like it might get redundant. Maybe I will use it just for pictures?

Pet For A Day

I got to spend some time this past weekend dogsitting the lovely Max.  He was so adorable and very well-trained.  He did anything I told him to - I loved it! (Ha! I would) PS- I love how I have become the official dog-sitter/house-sitter for all of my mom's friends.  I definitely don't mind doing it.  It's super easy and a good way to make some pocket change.  And its convenient because they all live pretty close.

Eat, Pray, Love (-Pray +Eat More) = Eat, Love, Eat More

This last week (post Quiz 6) has been FULL of wonderful cooking adventures and lovely dinners with friends.  Here are just a few highlights:

Beef/Lamb Seekh Kabobs

Bacon-wrapped mac and cheese sushi

Antelope Sliders

Bear Spring Rolls

A Wonderful Feast By a Wonderful Cook

Shrimp, Basil, Rosemary Pizza

Artichoke, Shallot, Prosciutto Pizza

Wheat Soft Pretzels
Btw I totally forgot to post that I have officially put in my garden for 2011!  Complete with green onions, basil, rosemary, oregano, eggplant, cherry tomatoes, small bell peppers, lettuce, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.  While planting everything, I had a little drama with a family of black widows who decided to make a nest on my bag of soil... Let's just say it ended in me pounding my shovel repeatedly and spraying the entire area with the hose.  Hope they don't come back!  Anyway, can't wait to see how everything does!

Never give up on love

An entire year has passed since love walked into my life, and I really have learned a lot. Before I met him, I was beginning to think I was going crazy, that I had unreal expectations of what I deserve, or that there were no more good men out there. Before this year, I was over and over again proved right: that so many people don't have good intentions. This year I was proved wrong. My expectations have been blown out of the water. I never knew there could be someone so perfect for me. But of course life is never perfect. "Its complicated" means so much more to me now than just some stupid Facebook relationship status.

In the end, you really can't go looking for love, because I have realized, that most of us look in the wrong places. You never know where you will find it and you will probably find it where you least expect it.

I hope I always remember to look at relationships and friendships as learning experiences, where I have been given a deeper insight into who people really are and why they do the things they do. And most of all, I hope I never forget that there are still people with good hearts out there. And never again will I entertain the idea that I deserve anything less.
